Choosing the most suitable type of printing inks for your applications is vital for obtaining the best results. It is important to understand the differences between the various types of printing inks that are available on the market and to find out which is more beneficial for the specific substrates that you intend to print on.
Dye based printing inks are well known for providing vivid and rich colors, when they are used for printing on paper, the only drawback of using them being that the prints are prone to smudging when they are exposed to humidity and are prone to oxidation and fading in time. They have fast drying properties, which can also be a disadvantage in some cases, for example when they are used for printing photos or graphics, since they are absorbed too fast, allowing the colors to overlap and create different shades than intended sometimes.
Pigment based printing inks, although a little bit more expensive than dye based printing inks, have a greater lasting power and are more resistant to humidity, but the colors are less vivid and the ink is prone to smudging if it is not let to dry properly before touching it.
Vegetable oil based solid printing inks are an environment friendly alternative, since they come in blocks and do not need to be housed in plastic cartridges like liquid printing inks. However, they are not very resistant in time and are prone to slight fading.
